Introduction

Evi Mono Awards is a free international monochrome photography award about women.

The award is dedicated to documentary and conceptual photographic works that explore women’s lives, presence, identity, memory, body, work, solitude, strength, vulnerability and place in the world.

The award is open to photographers of all genders, nationalities and backgrounds. Participants must be 18 years old or over.

Employees, organisers, official partners directly involved in the administration of the award, sponsors of specific prizes, and members of the judging panel are not eligible to participate in the edition in which they are involved.

Evi Mono Awards is based in Ireland and open to the world.

Participation Requirements

To enter Evi Mono Awards, participants must submit their work through the official website:

www.evimonoawards.com

Submissions must follow the instructions displayed on the website and in the submission form. The award is free to enter. No entry fee, subscription or account creation is required.

By submitting work, participants agree to these Terms and Conditions and consent to the processing of their personal data for purposes connected with the administration, review, publication and promotion of the award, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

Theme and Editions

Evi Mono Awards runs twice a year. Every six months, a new theme is announced for the current edition.

Each submitted work must respond to the theme of the current edition and must meaningfully engage with women as the subject, context or central idea of the photograph.

The theme may be interpreted through documentary or conceptual photography.

Categories

Evi Mono Awards has two categories.

Documentary Photography

This category is for monochrome photographic work rooted in real life, observation, people, places, events, memory, social context or everyday experience.

Conceptual Photography

This category is for monochrome photographic work built around an idea, symbol, staging, metaphor, constructed image, self-portraiture, object, body, absence, memory or experimental photographic language.

Participants may submit one work per category for each edition.

Accepted Works

Evi Mono Awards accepts photography only.

Submitted works must be monochrome photographic images. This includes black-and-white photography and photographic works using a single-colour monochromatic tone.

AI-generated images, fully synthetic images, digital art, illustration, poster design and non-photographic works are not accepted. The image must originate from a camera-based photographic process.

Basic photographic editing is allowed, including cropping, exposure correction, contrast adjustment, tonal correction, dust removal, standard retouching and other normal post-production processes.

The organisers reserve the right to reject any submission that does not meet the eligibility requirements.

File and Submission Requirements

Participants must submit their work using the official submission form.

Unless otherwise stated for a specific edition, submissions should include the photographer’s name, email address, country, selected category, image title, short description or artist statement, link to the submitted image, confirmation of authorship and rights, and acceptance of these Terms and Conditions and the Privacy Policy.

Images should be submitted as accessible links, such as Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, a portfolio page or another file-sharing link.

The submitted link must remain active and accessible during the review period.

Images should not contain watermarks, copyright marks, logos, decorative frames or added text unless such elements are an intentional and necessary part of the photographic work.

Recommended Image Specifications

Unless otherwise stated for a specific edition, submitted images should preferably be in JPEG format, in sRGB colour space, with the longest side between 1200 and 3000 pixels for initial review.

Images should be of good quality and suitable for jury review. Images should not contain watermarks, copyright marks, logos, added frames or decorative borders.

If a work is shortlisted, selected or awarded, the photographer may be asked to provide a higher-resolution file for publication, exhibition, catalogue or verification purposes.

Requirements for Selected and Awarded Works

If a work is selected, shortlisted or awarded, the photographer may be asked to provide a high-resolution digital file.

The high-resolution file may be used for purposes connected with Evi Mono Awards, including online publication, exhibition materials, press, catalogue, social media, newsletter and promotion of the award.

If the photographer cannot provide a suitable file or fails to respond within the required timeframe, the organisers may withdraw the selection, shortlist position, award or publication opportunity.

Originality and Ownership

All submitted works must be the original creations of the participant.

The participant must be the author of the submitted work and must own the copyright or have all necessary rights and permissions to submit the work.

Submitted works must not infringe the copyright, privacy, publicity, moral rights, image rights or other rights of any third party.

If a photograph includes identifiable people, the participant is responsible for obtaining all necessary permissions, releases or consents where required by applicable law.

If a work depicts children or vulnerable persons, the participant is responsible for ensuring that all appropriate permissions and protections are in place.

Copyright

Copyright always remains with the photographer.

By submitting work to Evi Mono Awards, the participant grants Evi Mono Awards a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use the submitted work solely in connection with the award and its promotion.

This may include use on the Evi Mono Awards website, online exhibitions, social media, newsletters, press materials, catalogues, partner communications and other award-related promotional materials.

Evi Mono Awards will not sell submitted works. Evi Mono Awards will not transfer copyright ownership. Evi Mono Awards will not license submitted works for unrelated commercial use without the photographer’s separate permission.

Where reasonably possible, works will be credited to the photographer.

Publication of Materials

The organisers may publish selected, shortlisted, awarded or otherwise featured submissions at their discretion.

Published materials may include the photographer’s name, country, image title, submitted image, artist statement, project description and related information.

The organisers may make reasonable editorial adjustments to submitted text for clarity, formatting, grammar or length.

The organisers will not intentionally alter the meaning of the work or falsely represent the photographer’s authorship.

Judging Process

Submissions will be reviewed by a human jury or selected reviewers appointed by Evi Mono Awards.

Entries may be assessed according to response to the theme, strength of concept, visual clarity, emotional force, originality, photographic quality, use of monochrome language, relevance to the subject of women and overall artistic merit.

The decision of the jury and organisers is final. No correspondence will be entered into regarding individual jury decisions.

Anonymous Review

Where possible, submissions may be reviewed without unnecessary identifying information.

However, because submissions are collected through a form, Evi Mono Awards may store names, email addresses and submission details for administrative purposes.

The organisers do not guarantee a fully anonymous review process in every stage of the award.

Prizes and opportunities may vary between editions.

They may include online gallery features, certificates, social media promotion, newsletter features, interviews, publication opportunities, exhibition opportunities, partner features or other awards announced for a specific edition.

Any financial, physical or partner-supported prizes will be announced clearly for the relevant edition.

If monetary prizes are offered, payment details, currency, transfer method and any applicable fees will be stated for that edition.

Unless otherwise stated, prizes cannot be exchanged, transferred or substituted.
